About the Foundation Twenty years ago, a small group of hotel professionals sat down and came up with the idea of creating a Scholarship Foundation to provide educational opportunities to talented students from Puerto Rico to pursue professional careers in the hospitality industry. Today, our goal is essentially the same - dynamic, well-educated Puerto Ricans heading the Puerto Rico hotel and tourism industry and the many businesses it supports. The Scholarship Foundation (Fundación de Becas para Estudios de Hotelería y Turismo) is a non-profit organization formed in 1989 under the laws of Puerto Rico and benefits from a Federal tax exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. The Scholarship Foundation could not have started work without the commitment of the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association (PRHTA), which in the early days provided full administrative support. About the Tournament Founded in 1993, the Luis Torregrosa Inter-Casino Golf Tournament started out as a friendly round of golf between casino industry colleagues. By 2001, its growth attracted corporate sponsorship from the casino industry, a sponsorship that later expanded to a wider audience of hospitality industry companies. Throughout the years, the event became one of the most well-regarded golf tournaments in Puerto Rico, growing to such an extent that it was not always able to accommodate all those who wished to play. It currently groups more than 200 members of the hotel casino industry, including owners, managers, staff at all levels, local and international suppliers and personnel from regulatory and government agencies, thus providing what is probably the only activity during the year where they all meet and share experiences in a single venue. Beginning in 2007, it evolved into an important fundraising vehicle for the Scholarship Foundation for Hotel & Tourism Studies, raising more than $250,000 since then, amidst a challenging economic climate. The funds have yielded immediate results due to the fact that part of them have already been granted to fund advanced studies by managerial personnel already active in the field. Now celebrating its 17th edition, the Luis Torregrosa Inter-Casino Golf Tournament is on a roll and hopes to continue contributing towards the industry that has nurtured so much local talent in Puerto Rico. |
It’s that time of the year and, as every year, the twenty two Casinos of Puerto Rico join forces to celebrate the Luis Torregrosa Inter-Casino Golf Tournament. It’s a great opportunity to get together and share with the Hospitality/ Casino industry a great round of golf amongst colleagues and friends... We will be celebrating the 17th Annual Luis Torregrosa Inter-Casino Golf Tournament, as a premier fund raiser to benefit the “Scholarship Foundation for Hotel and Tourism Studies” Due to the generosity of the vendors who make their living in the Tourism Industry this event has become the largest annual contributor to the Foundation and will greatly enhance the Foundation’s ability to offer educational opportunities to our youth.
